On Wednesday, October 10, Scott Metcalfe and the 13-voice ensemble Blue Heron will present a lecture-demonstration entitled “Music in 16th-century England: the Peterhouse Partbooks (c.1540).” Metcalfe will speak about the history of the partbooks, copied around 1540 for use at Canterbury Cathedral, and introduce works from the ensemble’s concert on October 11, Nicholas Ludford’s Missa Inclina cor meum and John Mason’s antiphon Ave fuit prima salus, neither of which have ever been performed in North America before. Blue Heron will provide live illustrations and perform the entire Mason antiphon. The lecture-demonstration will be held in Marsh Chapel from 1:30 to 2:30 pm. This event is free and open to the public.
