Real estate developer Richard D. Cohen (CGS’67, SMG’69) admits that he was a disinterested student during his grammar school and high school years in Brookline, Massachusetts. But he credits his classes and teachers at BU with changing his attitude. Eight years after graduating from the School of Management, Cohen founded Capital Property Associates.

The company, headquartered in Manhattan, has owned and managed 17,000 apartments and 8 million square feet of office space since 1977, in Boston, New York, Chicago, and other major markets across the country. Mr. Cohen has been a member of the Boston University Board of Trustees since 2006.

“The BU I know…gives a young student opportunities that they couldn’t get elsewhere. The ability to apply to one school and take courses at another…allows them not only to experiment, but to find a real path for themselves. That’s what happened with me.”
