Office of the Dean of Students Advertising and Publications

Welcome to Scarlet Media, the Advertising & Publications Group at the Office of the Dean of Students. Our function is to assist the various offices under the Division of Student Affairs with their advertising and publicity needs on campus. A team of experienced and talented student graphic designers work with offices to produce posters, flyers, club cards, promotional material and website content for dozens of events on campus.

To request advertising for your office or event, please click here. Make sure to familiarize yourself with our process, included below, before requesting advertising assistance.

If you are interested in joining our team of designers, please contact Katherine Hasenauer at khasena1@bu.edu.

Feel free to contact us at dospub@bu.edu if you have any questions. (Yes, that e-mail account is working again.)

Thanks,

Katherine Hasenauer, Assistant to the Dean of Students

Process

Our process begins with your filling out our form to request advertising. There are no peripheral fields in this form – all the information is required.

Once you’ve filled out this form, you will receive an email within one business day that will first ask for any missing or additional necessary information. Depending on the project, it may be necessary to set up an initial meeting to go over details, brainstorm ideas, or do background research. When we have all the information necessary, we will send you an email with a customized timeline for your project.

We are usually able to complete projects within two weeks. Our general timeline is as follows:

  1. Project Assignment & Initial Design
  2. Internal Approval & Corrections
  3. Client Approval + Edits of Rough Version
  4. Final Design
  5. Internal, Client, and Dean’s Approval
  6. Production

Again, once we receive the information necessary to begin working on your project, you will receive an email with a customized timeline, including dates and tasks. Once you receive the first version, it is essential that you include all edits necessary at that time, and send it back on the given deadline. Any edits requested after the initial editing phase will push back the final deadline.
