Small Mass Limit of Noisy Inertial Particle Dynamics: Homogenization, Instantaneous Equilibration, and Entropy Production (Jeremiah Birrell - UMass Amherst)
- Starts: 4:00 pm on Thursday, October 17, 2019
- Ends: 5:00 pm on Thursday, October 17, 2019
I will discuss the dynamics of an inertial particle, coupled to forcing, dissipation, and noise, in the small mass limit. Specifically, the following aspects will be addressed:
-homogenized equation for the position degrees of freedom in the limit, including higher-order approximations
-convergence of the joint distribution of position and (scaled) velocity degrees of freedom
-entropy production and the entropy anomaly in the small mass limit
