“High Anxiety: Appropriation and the Creative Imagination” A Lecture by Robert Boyers

  • Starts: 6:00 pm on Wednesday, October 30, 2019
“Why are artists and writers attacked for crossing boundaries and imagining the lives and experiences of persons unlike themselves? Why are standards associated with gender, ethnicity or race invoked to proscribe or delegitimize the exercise of imagination? This lecture considers whether, and how, the current preoccupation with appropriation might be the leading edge of a new dogmatism premised upon a misleading idea of art, literature and identity.”
