Research on Tap: Accelerating the Energy Transition: Transformative Pathways to Decarbonization and Sustainability in the Next Decade

  • Starts: 4:00 pm on Wednesday, December 4, 2019
  • Ends: 6:00 pm on Wednesday, December 4, 2019
Climate change has escalated to a climate crisis in the past five years with global warming setting historic records. If we don’t curb our current levels of greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, the planet will surpass a catastrophic climate temperature threshold, leading to a far greater risk of extreme weather events and their devastating impacts. Globally, the fossil-fuel dependent energy sector is the top source of emissions. As a multi-disciplinary initiative, BU’s Institute for Sustainable Energy will bring together researchers from across the university to explore the diversity of innovative thinking, solutions, and action needed to accelerate our transition to clean, sustainable energy—while discussing the myriad influences and considerations at play, including social equity. A wide range of speakers and topics will span how to support energy storage, carbon taxes, urban infrastructure for electric vehicles, climate communications, and much more (covering ISE’s research spectrum of sustainable cities, next-generation transportation, utility of the future, and sustainable water).
