  • Starts: 5:00 pm on Thursday, September 26, 2013
#myCFA FIRST YEAR EXPERIENCE EVENT. Hosted (and moderated by) Dean Benjamin Juarez Ruben Gallo will deliver the lecture entitled "Sigmund Freud and Octavio Paz: Orientalism and Eroticism." Reuben Gallo, an award-winning writer and scholar, is the author of "Freud's Mexico: Into the Wilds of Psychoanalysis" (2010), a study of Freud's fantasies about Mexico, among many other books. He teaches at Princeton University. Octavio Paz, Mexican Nobel prize winner, was not only one of the most relevant poets of the 20th century, but also an arts enthusiast who wrote proficiently about theatre, visual arts, and film. Dean Juarez had the rare opportunity to interact with him when he was seventeen. Mr. Paz had just returned from his Ambassadorship in India, a position he relinquished to protest the bloody governmental repression of the 1968 student movement. Register in the Dean's Office.
