All you need to know about Matriculation 2016

You’ve picked your side of the room, you’ve moved in your stuff, and you’ve made that jaunt to Target or Bed Bath & Beyond for those things you left with the family dog. What’s next?

How about walking down Comm Ave. with 3400 of your new friends?

That might sound daunting, but we swear it is not. You have to make it to your Matriculation ceremony at Agganis Arena on Sunday, September 4, 2016 somehow, and why not do so in grand style?

To join the Matriculation Walk on Sunday afternoon, pay attention to the directions of your RAs, material you may receive at move-in, and the timeline below. You’ll wait in the designated area, and when a band, Dean Elmore and a giant BU banner will come marching down the street, you join in the procession until it reaches Agganis Arena.

Here’s the timeline:

  • If you live in Kilachand, Towers, 575 Comm Ave. or a Bay State Road Brownstone, be in your spot (outside your hall or, in the case of 575, at the corner of Silber Way and Bay State Road) at 12:50pm.
  • If you live in Warren Towers, wait for the walk in Marsh Plaza at 12:50pm.
  • If you live in South Campus or off-campus, wait in the George Sherman Union (GSU) plaza at 1pm.
  • If you live in West Campus, gather in the West Campus plaza at 1pm.

You get to march into Agganis Arena all together as the Class of 2020 – the only time you’ll march together as a class until your Commencement ceremony in 2020.

The Matriculation ceremony lasts 90 minutes.

Parents are welcome at Matriculation. We suggest getting to Agganis Arena by 1:30pm to snag a prime seat.

If you have questions, concerns or need accommodations to participate, give Kat in the Dean’s office a holler at 617-353-4126.
