Scarlet Key Society Introduces Alumni Weekend Induction Ceremony
Event to honor senior student leaders and student life minded faculty, staff and alumni
September 15, 2009 – The Dean of Students Office announced this week that the Scarlet Key Society, Boston University’s honor society for extracurricular achievement, will be adding a fall induction ceremony this October. The induction ceremony will be held Thursday, October 22, 2009, in conjunction with the University’s Alumni Weekend programming.
This addition to the Scarlet Key schedule will provide the University the chance to recognize more graduating seniors for their outstanding extracurricular involvement, and their contributions to student life throughout the University. The event will also honor, via the Honorary Scarlet Key Award, faculty, staff and alumni who have made a conscious effort beyond their normal responsibilities to enhance student life.
The addition of a fall induction ceremony was made in outreach to the many members of Scarlet Key classes of years past who will be attending Alumni Weekend in October. The addition also helps the University recognize those graduating seniors who may be graduating a semester early, or who may be attending a study abroad program in the spring months. A spring induction ceremony will still take place, and is scheduled for Thursday, May 13, 2010.
Members of the University community are encouraged to submit nominations for both the Scarlet Key and Honorary Scarlet Key Awards. Nomination forms can be found on the Dean of Students website, and must be received by 5pm on Wednesday, September 30th. Faculty and staff members may nominate students for the Scarlet Key award, and all members of the University community may nominate for the Honorary Scarlet Key award. Nominees not selected for induction in the fall will be considered for the spring induction. New nominees will be solicited for the spring ceremony as well.
