Today edX announced that it is partnering with 14 universities to bring 19 MicroMasters programs to learners across the globe.
A MicroMasters program enables online learners to take a quarter or a semester’s worth of courses online. Learners who successfully earn a MicroMasters credential may then apply to on campus program that recognizes the MicroMasters credential. Once they are accepted at an institution that recognizes the MicroMasters credential, they can apply it toward a segment of the full campus Master’s degree program, reducing the time spent on campus and the overall cost of the program.
This model was pioneered a year ago by MIT, with its MicroMasters in Supply Chain management. Boston University is actively exploring the MicroMasters model. If your school or college is interested in developing a MicroMasters program, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
