The Vermont Hackathon, Hack VT, is a 24 hour computer programming competition with the goal of creating an app to benefit the state of Vermont. HackVT was the first hackathon in the nation to benefit a state. In 2012, Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin declared October "Tech Month in the State of Vermont." The technology industry is growing at a rapid rate and the goal of HackVT is to bring the digital community together to create awareness, betterment, and revenue for Vermont and the tech industry as a whole. HackVT will take place October 11-12. This is a great opportunity for students to gain real life experience in the field they are studying. We encourage students from technical computing fields, as well as those interested in graphic design, marketing and other business disciplines to take part in the competition. The event is also sponsored by Dealer.com, Competitive Computing and FairPoint Communications, providing great exposure for young professionals. Along with networking, there will be cash prizes awarded to the top three teams, totaling $10,000. There will also be a prize awarded to the best student team.
