Funding Mandates

Increasingly, funding institutions are mandating that researchers make their funded work openly or publicly accessible. The NIH Public Access Policy, which began in 2008, states that any NIH-funded work published in a peer-reviewed journal must be placed in PubMed Central, a public access repository that runs alongside PubMed. A law called FRPAA (Federal Research Public Access Act), will,  if passed, extend the public access mandate to 11 governmental agencies, including the National Science Foundation and the Department of Energy.
