GSU Union Food Court: 3 Star Certified Green Restaurant®

On February 24th, 2012, the George Sherman Union Food Court became a 3 Star Certified Green Restaurant® by the Green Restaurant Association, with the most Green Points™ in all of New England! In addition, it is the only food court in the US to be a Certified Green Restaurant®.

Highlights of the certification include:

  • Our robust waste diversion and reduction programs, including:
  • Compostable bio-based tableware and packaging
  • Post-consumer composting
  • Reusable to-go container with a $0.25 discount
  • Replacing hand towels with efficient hand dryers in the first floor restrooms
  • Installing low-flow aerators on our prep and hand sinks
  • Verifying existing green infrastructure such as insulation of 90% thermal efficient hot water tanks
  • The use of low and non-VOC paints and adhesives during the renovation of the Food Court in 2010
  • The employment of an Energy Management System for all HVAC and energy functions of the building
