Pre-doctoral Signout & Diplomas
Signout
The Registrar handles signout. Please contact them here if you have questions.
Pre-doctoral signout will begin on March 27, 2012. Students must be signed out of all the competencies before their degrees can be conferred.
All pre-doctoral students will sign out using this electronic form. Click here for detailed instructions on the process.
Please see the schedule below to determine the date of your degree conferral and how you will receive your diploma.

If you complete signout between Friday, May 18, 2012 and Sunday, May 20, 2012, your degree will be conferred on May 20, 2012. However, your diploma cannot be guaranteed at the graduation ceremony on May 18, 2012 and will be mailed to your diploma address.
Students not signed out by August 31, 2012 at 5 p.m. will be assessed partial tuition and all applicable fees for the Fall 2012 semester and will not be eligible to graduate prior to January 25, 2013.
Locker Signout
Following clinical and academic signout, all graduating students must schedule a locker inspection with Student Affairs.
Locker Signout Procedure
Starting April 1, DMD-4 and AS-2 students who have been completely signed out of their clinicals by their professor will be able to complete the locker sign-out procedure.
Student Affairs will contact students via email when they are able to schedule their sign-out session.
Diploma Name
All students who are expected to graduate should access the Student Link and update their diploma names and graduation ceremony information. Students will be asked to review/update the following information:
- Diploma name (as it will appear on your diploma and in Commencement programs)
- Whether or not they will be attending the May SDM and/or University-wide Commencement ceremonies.
- Previous degree(s)—if a degree is incorrect, please notify the Admissions Office at 617-638-4787 or stop by Room G305 no later than the first week of March.
To access the update functions, log on to the Student Link and click on “Academics,” then on “Diploma and Graduation Information.”
Your name will appear in both the University and dental school Commencement programs exactly as you entered it in the diploma name section of the Student Link.
Please note: Wednesday, March 14, 2012 by 5 p.m. will be the last day to update this information.
Honors
Honors will appear on your diploma and in both the University and dental school Commencement programs based on the following:
DMD: Third-year cumulative GPA
Advanced Standing: 1 1/2 years cumulative GPA
Students who, by virtue of strong academic performances during their final year, advance their GPAs beyond an honors level may request a new diploma be mailed to them which will indicate the new honors. Students whose academic performances during the final year causes their GPAs to fall below an honors level will retain the Latin honors as originally determined.
Criteria for Honors
DMD
- Summa Cum Laude: GPA of 3.80 or above
- Magna Cum Laude: GPA between 3.50 and 3.79
- Cum Laude: GPA between 3.20 and 3.49
Advanced Standing
- High Honors: GPA of 3.70 or above
- Honors: GPA between 3.55 and 3.69
