AS PASS Timeline & Tips

Advanced Standing students can prepare for PASS starting early spring of their last academic year for the following application cycle.

MARCH (early spring of last academic year)

  • Meet with Career Resources to explore job pursuits and residency options
  • Consult GSDM Career Library
  • Draft your resume for job applicationsand possible post-doctoral residencies
  • Consider which specialties you want to pursue
  • Search residency programs, using the ADEA PASS Search Engine

APRIL

  • Finalize your resume
  • Confirm your original DENTPIN# and save it for PASS login
  • Determine residency programs for which you will apply
  • Track individual application requirements and deadlines
  • Identify number of recommendations (2-4) needed per program
  • Draft personal statement(s)
  • Request faculty or mentors in clinical and academic settings to complete recommendation letters
  • Consider what work you will pursue in the meantime by accessing job search links

MAY

JUNE

  • Complete PASS sections and note character limits in text boxes
  • Upload your personal statement(s) and resume
  • Add your programs to the PASS “Program Designations” section
  • Follow up with faculty who will write your letters of recommendation

JULY

  • Request transcripts from the Registrar using the “Dental School Transcript Request Form” from the “Dental Schools Attended” PASS section once you have updated BU as your dental school
  • Complete any sections remaining in PASS and apply

AUGUST

  • Submit applications (first round of deadlines takes place in the first week of August)
  • Follow up with any required supplemental applications and essay

SEPTEMBER-DECEMBER

  • Review Match Registration
  • Determine which programs require Match ranking and review phase deadlines
  • Prepare for and attend interviews when invited

JANUARY-MARCH (of the application cycle year)

  • Finalize any required Match rankings if applicable
  • Receive and respond to final program offers

GENERAL TIPS & CONSIDERATIONS

  • Reflect and review programs as soon as possible: know their individual requirements
  • Follow up with Career Resources regularly
  • Be prepared for supplemental applications and essays
  • APPLY EARLY!!!
