Dr. Towne received his D.M.D. from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. After graduating from dental school, he served three years in the United States Army. He completed his residency training in oral and maxillofacial surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina in 1983, and then practiced in Vermont until 2011. He is a Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and served on their Board of Trustees from 1997 through 2001. He is a Fellow of the American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology. Dr. Towne is Board Certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology. He is a member of various professional organizations and has been honored by being inducted as a Fellow of both the American College of Dentists and the International College of Dentists. Dr. Towne also holds an appointment as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Vermont, College of Medicine. He was an active member of the Medical Staff of Central Vermont Medical Center for 28 years and served as Chairman of the Credentials Committee there for over 10 years. Dr. Towne was also the chairman of the organizing committee for the formation of Central Vermont Physician Hospital Organization and served as it’s first President and CEO. Dr. Towne is Director of Ambulatory Clinic operations at Boston Medical Center and is also Director of Quality Control and Assurance for the department. His interests include participation in organized dentistry and medicine, clinical practice in the field of minimally invasive facial cosmetic surgery and education of residents and students in ambulatory oral and maxillofacial surgery including dentoalveolar surgery, anesthesiology and implantolgy.
