Orthodontic Faculty Honor the Late Dr. Anthony Gianelly at Italian Dental Congress

Clinical Instructor Dr. M. Gabriela Marquez, Clinical Assistant Professor Dr. Jack Bednar, and Clinical Instructor Dr. Negaar Sagafi traveled to Italy at the end of November to take part in the XXVII National Congress of the Italian Society of Bidimensional Technique. This Society, founded in 1982, was inspired by the growing interest in former Professor & Chair ad interim of the Department of Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopedics Dr. Anthony Gianelly’s orthodontic philosophy.

Today the Society has greater than 700 members, including Drs. Marquez, Bednar, and Sagafi. At this year’s Congressa memorial to Dr. GianellyDrs. Marquez and Sagafi presented a lecture titled, "BU Skeletal Anchorage," and Dr. Bednar presented a lecture titled, "Anthony Gianelly’s Gift to Orthodontics." Dr. Bednar has lectured extensively throughout Italy for more than 30 years on the BU bidimensional technique.

"Dr. Gianelly had a profound effect on those he taught, mentored, worked alongside, and shared his orthodontics philosophy with both nationally and internationally," said Dean Jeffrey Hutter. "It is wonderful to see his memory and wisdom live on through the work and words of members of the GSDM orthodontic faculty."
