Entering Post-doctoral Student Requirements
Offers of admission are provisional, based on completion of all acceptance and enrollment requirements. These requirements include, but are not limited to, receipt of a satisfactory criminal background history report, completion of all prerequisites, and submission of all required official documents.
An accepted applicant must submit an Acceptance Confirmation form, a signed statement of their intention to enroll. Accepted applicants also must submit a non-refundable $3,000 tuition deposit. (Exception: students receiving scholarships in AEGD and OMFS.) The non-refundable tuition deposit is applied to the student account toward the first semester of enrollment.
Degree-conferring Dental School Transcript
All accepted U.S. educated applicants are required to submit an official degree-conferring transcript indicating the date of the conferred, earned dental degree. The official, final transcript must be submitted prior to matriculation. Applicants who hold additional advanced degrees must submit a transcript from each program.
Criminal Background Check
Boston University is participating in an arrangement with ADEA PASS and Certiphi® Screening Inc. for criminal background checks of accepted applicants. Prior to conducting a criminal background check, Certiphi requires the authorization of the individual under review. The admissions committee will review the record of each accepted applicant prior to entry into the program. In case of evidence of criminal history, an applicant may be deemed ill-suited for a post-doctoral program, in which case an offer of admission may be rescinded. Review of criminal background check reports is on a case-by-case basis.
All enteringstudents submit mandatory health and immunization information to Student Health Services. All post-doctoral students must be in clinical compliance status as determined by Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine, Boston University Student Health Services, and state and local requirements.
The Commonwealth of Massachusetts requires all health care students to be immunized against hepatitis B or provide serologic proof of immunity. Hepatitis B immunization requires a three-dose regimen of vaccine, which must be completed prior to matriculation. Evidence of inoculation (all three doses) must be provided at matriculation.
Following enrollment confirmation, accepted foreign nationals submit personal and financial documentation to Admissions. The Boston University International Students & Scholars Office (ISSO) then produces the appropriate document to enable entering international students to apply for a student visa.
Massachusetts Limited Licensure
Some post-doctoral students will need to obtain a Massachusetts Limited License for rotations at affiliated sites. These programs include Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD), Endodontics, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and Pediatric Dentistry. Check with the program regarding instructions and deadlines for the application for a Limited License.
U.S. Social Security Number
International students in the Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) program must obtain a U.S. Social Security Number prior to the start of the program. Check with the program regarding requirements and instructions.
