Applied Strategic Planning Committee Holds 2015 Meeting

The Applied Strategic Planning Committee

On August 18, 2015, the Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine’s (GSDM) Applied Strategic Planning Committee held its most recent meeting, at which the committee members discussed the various accomplishments since the creation of the Applied Strategic Plan’s (ASP) in 2011.

At the meeting on August 18, the ASP Committee reviewed its goals and updated them in order to accurately portray the progress the committee has made with each goal. Many accomplishments have been made in the five years since the ASP began, and the committee acknowledged those accomplishments at the meeting.

The theme of the meeting was “What seems like an end is often a new beginning.”

“The Applied Strategic Planning Committee has been in place for more than 5 years. Time flies when you are productive and having fun! It’s amazing how much has been achieved. The committee members have been dedicated and focused, but it was time to look at our plan and decide next steps. The meeting provided wonderful dialogue and exchange of ideas,” said ASP Co-Chair Dr. Celeste Kong.

During the meeting, the Goal Champions—who are each responsible for a goal—explained which Objectives have been completed for their goals, which are now in processes in various GSDM departments, and which are still ongoing.

“As a result of the Dean’s vision and hard work of GSDM’s community, a lot has been accomplished with the ASP since its implementation in 2011. Our strategic plan continues to be a living document and guides us towards being the premier academic dental institution in the world,” said Assistant Dean for Business Development, Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of General Dentistry, and Director of the Dental Health Center at 930 Commonwealth Avenue, Dr. Margaret Errante, who facilitated the meeting.

“This committee meeting was of a special significance as we culminated almost five years of the implementation process and therefore, spent sufficient time to discuss our accomplishments, challenges and the future direction for the school. It was recognized that we can’t sit on our laurels and we need to continue to work towards our common goal of making GSDM the premier academic dental institution,” said Dr. Errante.

At the meeting, opening remarks were delivered by Dean Jeffrey W. Hutter, Dr. Errante, Dr. Kong, and Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs and Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of General Dentistry Dr. John Guarente—who is ASP Co-Chair with Dr. Kong.

“The Applied Strategic Planning Committee has done tremendous work over the last five years and made great strides,” said Dean Hutter. “Under the direction of Drs. Guarente and Kong, and now Dr. Errante, I am delighted with what the committee accomplished and I look forward to our continued progress.”
