Group Practice Leaders Drs. David Dano and Eleni Kanasi with two students from Group Practice 8, Amrita Patel DMD 15 and Himanshu Shah DMD 15, joined the Massachusetts Dental Society Boston Collaborative Group (BCG) to cook and serve dinner for 150 women and children at Rosie’s Place, a sanctuary for poor and homeless women located in Boston’s South End on December 9, 2013.

This marked the second year the BCG invited the dental community to give back by “cooking for a cause.” More than 30 dentists, students, and staff participated.

“Being dentists and educators, it is only natural for us to teach the important value of giving back to our community,” said Dano. “The event was a great success and both Dr. Kanasi and I felt great satisfaction helping those in need.”

The BCG is a co-sponsored initiative of the American Dental Association, the Massachusetts Dental Society, and the Metropolitan District Dental Society. GSDM’s own Alumni Board member Frank Schiano CAS 01, DMD 06, AEGD 07 is Chair of the BCG Executive Committee and several BU faculty and alums are on the committee.

“I applaud the work of Dr. Dano, Dr. Kanasi, Amrita, and Himanshu at Rosie’s Place,” said Dean Jeffrey W. Hutter. “They provide a great example of the many ways we can serve our community.”
