On Friday, November 13, 2013, the Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM) Student Research Group (SRG) held a Research Fair in G-302. The Fair offered an introduction to new DMD and AS students about the many research opportunities available at GSDM.

Attendees enjoyed a pizza lunch while GSDM SRG President Josh Gilbert DMD 14 welcomed everyone and introduced his fellow SRG officers: Vice-President Ray English DMD 14, Secretary Matthew Green DMD 15, and Treasurer Isha Suri DMD 15. They described their research experiences at GSDM to the group. Gilbert then welcomed and introduced Dr. Maria Kukuruzinska, Associate Dean for Research. Dr. Kukuruzinska spoke with the students and answered questions regarding research opportunities at our School. Assistant Director of Pre-doctoral Research Afaf Hourani provided materials containing additional information about DMD and AS research opportunities, topics, and faculty mentors by department.

“Our main message for the students was the importance of research in dentistry going forward and how many different fields of research are available,” said Gilbert.

Dean Jeffrey W. Hutter emphasized the importance of the SRG and research as part of GSDM students’ education. “Research is crucial to the future of dentistry,” said Dean Hutter. He continued, “Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine is committed to providing students many research opportunities to both enhance their learning, and advance the field of dental medicine.”
