Sara Elashaal DMD 17 was awarded a scholarship from the National Health Service Corps Scholarship Program (NHSC SP) in August 2013. The NHSC SP awards scholarships to students pursuing primary health care professions training in NHSC-eligible disciplines (dentistry being among these) in return for a commitment to offer health care to communities in need upon graduation.

Scholarship winners provide a year of primary health care services for each year the scholarship covers (but for the first year, the minimum service commitment is two years) at an NHSC-approved site located in a high-need Health Professional Shortage Area. Elashaal’s scholarship is for two years with an option to extend her contract for another two.

An NHSC scholarship includes tuition, required fees, and other reasonable educational costs. Scholarship recipients also receive a monthly stipend for living expenses.

“It’s a great honor to be selected for this competitive program and I’m proud to represent the Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine in the National Health Service Corps Scholarship Program,” said Elashaal.

Dean Jeffrey W. Hutter commended Elashaal on the noteworthy honor. “Congratulations to Sara Elashaal. The Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine community is so proud she was awarded this prestigious scholarship,” said Dean Hutter.
