Friends New and Old Make Alumni Weekend Special
Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM) celebrated our most special Alumni Weekend yet on Friday, October 25, 2013, just 9 days after commemorating a golden anniversary. The reception at the Four Seasons Hotel gathered new and old friends to share memories of the School’s past and look toward its future.
Guests were graced with the presence of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald and Greer Goldman, son and daughter-in-law of our School’s namesake and founder, Dr. Henry M. Goldman. Dean Jeffrey W. Hutter invited Mr. Goldman to the podium, where he shared memories of his father and what it was like to grow up at the same time as the (then) School of Graduate Dentistry was also starting to blossom.
Dean Hutter spoke of the growth of our School: “As a progressive School with a defined Vision, we must look to the past and draw inspiration as we ready ourselves to launch into the future with a proposed new facility and a commitment to continue our legacy of innovation in order to create a future that is truly great,” he said.
“We now have an opportunity to have a new facility and shame on us if we do not take advantage of it.”
Dean Hutter acknowledged special guests from the University, members of the Honorary and Working Committees to Plan our School’s 50th Anniversary Celebration, members of the Dean’s Advisory Board, and members of the Alumni Board, in addition to all alumni, faculty, staff, and students in attendance. Specifically:
- Shadi Daher DMD 90, OMFS 94, immediate past president of the Boston University Alumni Council, and his wife Dr. Millie Serano; and
- Ernesto Muller PERIO 61, member of the Dean’s Advisory Board and past chair of the Dean’s Board of Visitors.
Three alumni and faculty then joined Dean Hutter at the podium to reaffirm his sentiments and share their own enlightening remarks about the future of our School and how we can impact it. They were: Mitch Sabbagh DMD 87, GSDM Alumni Association president; Dr. Thomas Kilgore, chair of the 50th Anniversary Planning Committee; and David Lustbader CAS 82, DMD 86, GSDM Dean’s Advisory Board chair.
Dean Hutter closed his remarks reading the opening statements of a November 1, 1963 Boston University Press Release announcing the creation of the School of Graduate Dentistry and Dr. Henry M. Goldman being named its Founding Dean, and with a motivational video highlighting the past 50 years at GSDM and what an amazing future we stand before.
Guests continued to enjoy live music, food, and each other’s company for the rest of the evening.
