The Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM) Staff Forum held meetings September 24–27, 2013. Board members Larissa Weiner and Kim Whitaker led the meetings.
They began by noting that the board recently welcomed several new members, and had the members in attendance introduce themselves. Weiner and Whitaker reviewed the role of the Staff Forum, which is to operate as a liaison between the Executive Committee and GSDM staff.
Kim inquired as to whether or not there might be interest in any or all of the following: board members holding office hours, a human resources representative running a presentation on staff perks that may not be common knowledge, and resume’ building workshops. She received a positive response on all of these ideas from meeting attendees.
They went on to discuss other potential group activities, such as a book club or another bowling night. They informed everyone that the rewards and recognition programs the Staff Forum proposed late last year are currently being reviewed by Dean Hutter for presentation to Executive Committee at its November 2013 meeting. The two recapped the elements of Goal 6 (to recruit, develop, and maintain quality staff) and Goal 8 (sustain an environment of community and ownership) in the Applied Strategic Plan to clarify any lingering confusion about what those entail.
They ended the meetings by opening the floor for comments and questions, and mentioned again that the Staff Forum is a resource for all staff, and to feel free to contact them with ideas or questions.
