On September 16, 2013, the incoming Class of 2016 residents and doctoral candidates in periodontology at Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM) were honored with a welcome dinner at the BU Castle, hosted by Chair of Periodontology and Director of the Advanced Specialty Education Program in Periodontics Dr. Serge Dibart.

Dean Jeffrey W. Hutter opened the evening with a moment of silence for Dr. Oreste Zanni, who died on July 15, 2013, doing what he loved most—teaching his residents in the Advanced Specialty Education Program in Periodontics. Dean Hutter said, “Dr. Zanni was an outstanding teacher and mentor totally dedicated to the Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine. He will truly be missed.”

Dean Hutter then extended a warm welcome to the new residents and their family and friends. To the residents, he said, “Congratulations on your acceptance to the finest Advanced Specialty Education Program in Periodontics.” He praised the outstanding leadership of Dr. Dibart and the team of exemplary faculty charged with teaching the new residents in the classroom, the research laboratory, and the Patient Treatment Center.

Dean Hutter said, “I, along with my wife Kathy, wish you the best of success as you enter this next exciting phase of your education in pursuit of your goal of becoming a periodontist. We look forward to getting to know each and every one of you.”

Dr. Dibart introduced himself and the periodontology program to the guests. He welcomed each of the incoming residents with a brief summary of where they had come from, both geographically and academically.

Diego Capri PERIO 02 also spoke, offering encouragement and advice to the new residents as an alum experienced in the workings of GSDM and its Department of Periodontology.

The Class of 2016 Periodontology residents are Taiba AlSarraf, Won Gi Lee, I-Ping Lin, Eihab Mously, Angel Rodriguez, and Sheriff Said.
