Longtime Employees Honored at Dean’s Reception

Dean Jeffrey W. Hutter hosted an Employee Recognition Luncheon in the Dean’s Conference Room on Thursday, September 19, 2013, to honor Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM) retirees, and staff and faculty who have served the School for 10 and 25 years. This is the fourth time GSDM has held such an event for longtime employees. Mrs. Hutter regretted that she could not attend the event this year.

“As we acknowledge and recount all that these individuals do and have done to contribute to the success of our students, patients, and our School, I am reminded how critical the contributions of each and every member of our team are to the fulfillment of our mission,” said Dean Hutter.

In attendance to celebrate 10 years of service were: Dr. John Bowley, Ms. Nerline Grand-Pierre and her husband Reginal Riviere, Ms. Milly Koo, Dr. Miklos Sahin-Toth, Ms. Vera Sahin-Toth, and Mr. Daniel Hyacinth. Not in attendance were: Dr. Michael Blau, Dr. Manuel Garcia, Dr. Robert Gyurko, Dr. Andrea Maalouf, Dr. John Samuelson, and Ms. Adriane Wilson. Upon being recognized, Dr. Sahin-Toth gave a very interesting history of the founder of Semmelweis University of Medicine, upon whom the University is named, in Budapest Hungary from which he earned his MD and PhD degrees. Mrs. Sahin-Toth also worked at Semmelweis, while Dr. Gyurko earned his DMD degree there.

Acknowledged for 25 years of service were: Ms. Patricia Delorey, who attended with her daughter Amanda and three-month-old grandson Mason, and Dr. Maria Kukuruzinska. Dr. Kukuruzinska noted that this was her first and only job, having joined GSDM following her post-doctoral work at Johns Hopkins University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Employees who retired in the past year included: Ms. Kathleen Bagley, Ms. Brenda Hughes, Ms. Anne Jensen, Ms. Marianne Lewis, Ms. Angela Perna, Ms. Edith Spector, and Ms. Ellen Yadon.

Dean Hutter spoke about Yadon, former Dean’s Office assistant and the one retiree present:

She is sorely missed in the Dean’s Office and across the School, but we are so pleased that Ellen continues to keep in touch and visit regularly.

Dean Hutter ended his remarks, saying, “It is truly people like you who make our School a center for excellence in oral health education, research and patient care in the world.”
