On Tuesday, August 20, 2013, Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM) Oral Health Promotion Director Kathy Lituri and two student volunteers participated in the Healthy Baby, Healthy Child (HB/HC) Family Picnic.

HB/HC is an innovative home-visiting program whose mission is to promote the health and wellbeing of women, children, and families in Boston, particularly those living in communities that are disproportionately impacted by infant mortality and other health disparities.

The HB/HC picnic is the last day of a six-week program for high risk mothers and children in the area. Ella Botchevar and Sameet Gill, both DMD 14, joined Kathy at Stony Brook Reservation in Hyde Park to discuss oral health, offer activities, provide screenings, and hand out free toothbrushes to families in attendance.

“This was a wonderful event that provided a fun and relaxing way to engage families with young children in conversations about oral health,” said Kathy Lituri.
