Professor and Chair in the Department of Restorative Sciences/Biomaterials Dr. Dan Nathanson (who unfortunately could not attend due to a delayed flight) and Professor in the Department of Restorative Sciences/Biomaterials and Director of the Advanced Specialty Education Program in Prosthodontics Dr. Steven Morgano hosted a celebratory dinner in honor of the graduating Post-doctoral Prosthodontics Class of 2013 on Friday, August 9, 2013. The dinner was held on the 26th floor of Student Village 2 at 33 Harry Agganis Way.

Faculty, staff, and residents mingled at the cocktail hour, and then sat down to dinner. Dean Jeffrey W. Hutter welcomed the residents and offered congratulations to the graduates. “You will always be part of the Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine family,” said Dean Hutter. “We are all so proud of you.”

Dr. Morgano introduced the new residents in the class of 2016: Abdulrahman Jafar Alhaddad, Fahad Alkhtani, Firas Alqarawi, Shatha Alshali, Hossam Jokhadar, Hattanas Kumchai, Peixi Lao, Walter Odisho, Marlen Robles-Moreno, Gerardo Munguia Rodriguez, and Justine Oliveros Soles.

Dr. Morgano then presented the graduating class of 2013: Faisel Ashtewi, Abdallah Awada, Johanna Gallego, Shervin Tabeshfar, Chatcharwin Ungurawasaporn, David Vaknin, and Aleksandar Vojdanoski.

The following awards were bestowed at the reception:

Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Restorative Sciences/Biomaterials Dr. Hideo Yamamoto received the Post-doctoral Prosthodontics Residents’ Award for Teaching Excellence. Dr. Yamamoto was unable to attend so Dr. Morgano accepted the award in his behalf.

Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Restorative Sciences/Biomaterials Dr. Andre Hashem accepted the Post-doctoral Prosthodontics Residents’ Appreciation Award.

“Receiving the Residents’ Appreciation Award was truly an honor,” said Dr. Andre Hashem. “Thanks to Drs. Nathanson and Morgano for their support.”

Dr. Abdallah Awada PROS 13 received the David J. Baraban Award given annually to an outstanding resident in prosthodontics for exemplifying excellence in character and clinical proficiency.

Senior Administrative Secretary in the Department of Restorative Sciences/Biomaterials Luz Lebron accepted the Special Residents’ Award for Excellence in Service. This was a new award created by the graduating class to honor Ms. Lebron for her outstanding support.

The evening concluded with a beloved tradition, a video commemorating the graduating residents’ memories of their time at GSDM.

Dr. Morgano thanked everyone for attending the dinner, congratulated the graduates, and welcomed the new residents. “We have a brand new class coming in, and an outstanding class leaving us,” he said. “Some graduates will practice as clinicians and many will be teachers, imparting the knowledge and skills that they learned here to their own students.”
