DMD Students Practice Pain Control

Third year DMD students took turns practicing pain control on each other on Tuesday, July 9, 2013. This part of clinical orientation has become a yearly ritual, where students learn first-hand how it feels to be a dentist and administer local anesthesia.

Director of Pre-doctoral Education in the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Dr. Richard D’Innocenzo, Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs Dr. John Guarente, and other faculty supervised the students as they diligently practiced on their fellow students.

“The Pain Control Lab seems to run better each year,” said Dr. D’Innocenzo. “This is primarily due to the excellent faculty supervisors, and Dr. Guarente and his staff’s adept coordination of the clinic. The faculty provide instruction and experience that make the students feel more at ease with the administration of local anesthesia.”

The students attended operational seminars for 5th floor central sterilization and operatory, and 6th floor finance and front desk. Their schedule also included MIPAC software training.
