FY 13 Promotions Announced

Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM) continues to implement the Applied Strategic Plan (ASP), ongoing efforts are focused on Goal 8, to recruit, develop, and retain excellent and diverse faculty and staff. The Office of the Dean is pleased to announce FY13 staff promotions. “Please join me in congratulating your colleagues on their promotions and outstanding efforts on behalf of GSDM,” said Dean Jeffrey W. Hutter.

Erika Abruzzese – Ms. Abruzzese began working at GSDM in 2010 as the Associate Director of Finance reporting to John Reilly, the Director of Finance.  With the recent appointment of John Reilly to Director of Clinical Operations & Finance, Erika is being promoted into this vacant position where she will assume the new additional responsibilities of Director of Finance while still performing her current responsibilities. Erika’s new position has been retitled to Director of Finance & Reporting Analytics reporting to Timothy McDonough, the Executive Director of Finance and Operations in the Office of the Dean. The Associate Director of Finance position has been eliminated.

Krista Aronson – Ms. Aronson was most recently hired into an open position within the Clinical Affairs office, resulting in a promotion to Administrative Coordinator. Krista will be reporting to Dr. John Guarente and supporting both Dr. Guarente and John Reilly, the Director of Clinical Operations & Finance. Krista joined GSDM as a Continuing Education Coordinator in 2011 working in the Continuing Education office.

Erin Bastyr – Ms. Bastyr began working at GSDM in 2010 as a Patient Coordinator. Erin has been promoted to Senior Patient Coordinator reporting to Emily Regan, the Clinic Care Supervisor. As a Senior Patient Coordinator, Erin is responsible for providing guidance to the Patient Coordinators and for overseeing the workflow of the front desk and patient waiting area.

Andrew Burke – Mr. Burke has been promoted to Director of Facilities & Operations reporting to Timothy McDonough in the Office of the Dean. Andy began his career with Boston University in 1979 working in the facilities group on the Charles River Campus. He transferred to GSDM in 2000. Andy will continue to serve as principal manager for ongoing GSDM improvement and construction projects, providing management support to the ongoing operations of GSDM, including the accurate allocation and reporting of building operating costs.

Tricia Connolly – Ms. Connolly began working at the Dental Health Center at 930 Commonwealth Avenue as a Clinic Care Coordinator in 2011. She has been promoted to an Insurance & Claims Finance Manager reporting to Clinic Financial Manager Rebecca Bhatia. In Tricia’s new role, she is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of processing and tracking approximately $5 million annually in insurance claims for the Dental Health Center at 930 Commonwealth Avenue.

Lori Davis – Ms. Lori Davis has been promoted to Assistant Director of Curriculum & Student Advancement from her previous role as Manager, Academic Affairs. Lori began her career at GSDM in September 2007. In her new position, Lori will report to Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Dr. Cataldo Leone and she is responsible for direct oversight of academic curricula, student performance, and educational outcomes in both pre-and post-doctoral programs. 

Mark Kaplan – Mr. Kaplan began working at GSDM in 2011 as a dental laboratory assistant in the pre-doctoral laboratories processing Removable Prosthodontics’ prostheses for the patients assigned to the students. Mark has been promoted to Senior Laboratory Assistant and will have additional responsibilities that include processing and repairing new and existing prostheses, instructing and overseeing students on set-ups and finishing prostheses, answering technical questions, and performing the laboratory aspect of altered cast procedures.

Lindsay McHugh – Ms. McHugh is a member of the Office of the Dean who has been working at GSDM for three years as the School’s Event and Meeting Planner. Prior to working at GSDM, Lindsay joined BU in 2007 working in Alumni Relations on the Charles River Campus. Lindsay has been promoted to Assistant Director of Meetings & Events and will continue to report to Timothy McDonough in the Office of the Dean.

Li Qi – Ms. Qi has worked for almost 10 years with GSDM; first as a coordinator at the Dental Health Center at 930 Commonwealth Avenue, and then as a Contract Billing Administrator with Clinical Finance. Li has been promoted to Manager of Billing & Claims and will be the main point of contact for all insurances with which the School participates and will directly oversee all aspects of the billing and claims process for nearly $4 million in annual insurance claims.  Li will continue to report to Lorletta Dirtion, Senior Manager of Clinical Finance.

Richard Rabbett – Mr. Rabbett joined GSDM in 1990 as Administrative Assistant to Dr. Nathanson in the Department of Biomaterials and in 1996 moved into the role of Faculty Actions Coordinator in the Office of the Dean. Richard has been promoted to Director of Faculty Academic Services & Operations. As Director of Faculty Academic Services & Operations, Richard will serve as a primary resource for members of the GSDM faculty and administration on matters involving all phases of the faculty lifecycle at Boston University including recruitment, hiring, immigration, academic credentialing, faculty annual review, faculty development, promotion, reporting, and policy matters. He will also continue to serve as the master Data Security Administrator (DSA) for GSDM with oversight of the School’s electronic organization structure and business user roles in the SAP enterprise system.

John Reilly – Mr. Reilly has been appointed to Director of Clinical Operations & Finance reporting to Dr. John Guarente, the Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs. In this newly created position, John will have responsibility for managing and overseeing the operations of the patient treatment centers. His role will include the management of the Clinical Finance office, Clinical Administration, and Patient Relations. John will also be taking on the responsibility of serving as the School’s Compliance Officer. John joined GSDM in 2006 as Finance Manager in the Clinical Finance office.

Amy Roberts – Ms. Roberts has been promoted to a Clinical Care Coordinator at the Dental Health Center at 930 Commonwealth Avenue and will continue to report to Christina Ferrelli who is the front desk supervisor. In Amy’s new role, she will monitor the financial goals of the Center by collecting payments, accounting for all cash receipts, allocating all payments, and performing daily reconciliation. Amy began working at the Dental Health Center in 2011.

Vera Sahin-Toth– Ms. Sahin-Toth began working at GSDM in 2002 as a Laboratory Technician. Ms. Sahin-Toth has been promoted to Laboratory Manager reporting to Dr. David E. Levin, Professor and Chair of the Department of Molecular & Cell Biology. As Lab Manager, Vera is responsible for managing the day-to-day activities in the Sahin-Toth lab as well as overseeing the workflow of post-docs and technicians in the laboratory.

Andrea Sarkis – Ms. Sarkis began working at GSDM in 2006. Her most recent position was Clinical Administration Supervisor assigned to the Pre-doctoral Patient Treatment Center located on the 5th and 6th floors. Andrea has been promoted to Practice Manager of the Pre-doctoral Patient Treatment Center reporting to Clinical Operations Manager, Kelly Marcinkewich. In Andrea’s new role, she will be responsible to ensure efficient flow of the business operations of the Pre-doctoral Patient Treatment Center, including assigning business office tasks to patient coordinators.

Jackie Simon – Ms. Simon has been promoted to Associate Director of Publications & Media Relations. Jackie joined GSDM in 2006. She will continue to manage the many GSDM publications that are distributed throughout the year, manage Outlook This Week, and serve as managing editor of Impressions. She serves as point person for all media inquiries and press releases.
