On Friday, May 3, 2013, GSDM was honored with a visit from Alpha Omega (AO) President Dr. Marcy Schwartzman. She travelled from Vancouver to meet with approximately 25 student and faculty members of the dental fraternity in the Dean’s Conference Room.

“As the home to three student chapters and one alumni chapter, Boston is an important location for Alpha Omega,” said Dean Jeffrey W. Hutter. “We at GSDM are especially honored that Dr. Schwartzman took the time to visit our School and meet personally with students, staff, and faculty.”

Jeremiah M. Granados DMD 14, Rick Zavada DMD 14, Adam Robbins DMD 15, and Eric Weinberg DMD 14 helped organize the visit with AO Faculty Advisor Dr. David Dano. Dr. Schwartzman, Dean Hutter, and Assistant Dean of Students Dr. Joseph Calabrese gave remarks. The group enjoyed lunch and Dr. Schwartzman ended her day at GSDM with a tour of the School.

On Sunday, May 5, the Alpha Omega Boston Alumni Chapter hosted a Spring Brunch to honor graduating student members of AO at BU, Harvard, and Tufts Schools of Dental Medicine. Approximately 100 student and alumni members of AO attended the event at the Courtyard Marriott in Cambridge.

Graduating students received diplomas from AO. Dean Huw Thomas and Professor Hilde Tillman, both from Tufts University, became honorary members of the fraternity.

Alpha Omega is the oldest international dental organization, founded in 1907 by students to fight discrimination in dental schools. AO’s mission includes education and philanthropy. The organization is responsible for creating both dental schools in Israel, the Hebrew University-Hadassah School of Dentistry and the Tel Aviv University Maurice and Gabriela Goldschleger School of Dental Medicine.
