The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) held its 2013 Annual Meeting in Boston February 14-18. Layeeq Ahmed AS 13 presented in the AAAS Student Poster Competition on February 16, 2013, at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston.
The competition recognizes the individual efforts of students actively working toward an undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral degree.
Ahmed and his mentor, Assistant Professor of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and Director, Advanced Specialty Education Program in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Dr. Andrew Salama, worked on the project, “Gingival Cancer —Trends in Incidence, Mortality and Survival Rate Among Different Age Groups and Ethnicities. A 35 years SEER Analysis in US Population.”
“It is a pleasure to witness Layeeq Ahmed’s work on a topic of such great importance to the global population,” said Dean Jeffrey W. Hutter. “I applaud both Mr. Ahmed and his mentor, Dr. Salama, for their contributions to the scientific community.”
This year’s meeting, which AAAS expected to be the largest international scientific conference, focused on “The Beauty and the Benefits of Science.” Several BU staff and faculty members spoke at the meeting as well, including our own Assistant Director of Pre-doctoral Research Afaf Hourani.
