Graduate
Programs - PhD Program
Programs of study leading to the Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering,
Computer Engineering, and Systems Engineering are available.
Students pursue theoretical and empirical studies
in a topic area determined by their interests and those of their
faculty research advisor. Boston features a vibrant high-tech
research community, and external collaborations with industry,
government, and other universities are common. Ph.D. students are
supported in part by the Department to present their work at key
conferences. The Ph.D. program in Electrical Engineering
encompasses a wide array of research areas ranging from signal
processing and communications to photonics, electromagnetics, and
solid state materials and devices. The Computer Engineering degree
includes study in computer communications and reliable systems
as well as software engineering and multimedia.
The Ph.D. program in Systems Engineering is an
interdisciplinary program for those wishing to do advanced
work in areas such as control systems, robotics, information
processing, or intelligent systems.
