Graduate
Programs - MS Program
Students in the M.S. program can choose to pursue studies
in Electrical or Computer Systems Engineering or Photonics. These three
degree programs
maintain a common structure, which includes similar requirements
for concentration, breadth, and advanced coursework, but are differentiated
by the chosen
concentration area. Some students in the program pursue the
M.S. as a terminal degree, and use it to complement their undergraduate
studies. Other students regard the M.S.
as an introduction to graduate studies, and continue on to
their Ph.D. work. As a part of their studies, students normally participate
in research with supporting
faculty, and are encouraged to publish their research results
in journals or present them at conferences. Students complete either
a formal thesis or a project as part
of their requirements. Concentrations are provided in the
following seven areas: Signal Processing and Communications; Systems
and Control; Solid State Circuits,
Devices, and Materials; Electromagnetics and Photonics; Software;
Hardware and Architecture; and Computer Communications and Networks.
All programs in the department require 32 credit hours of study. Up to
8 credits may be transferred
from other approved graduate schools.
