Current Research
Dr. Karl's research is concerned with the development and use of statistically-based techniques for the extraction of information from images and multi-dimensional fields. One aspect of his work concerns the develop- ment of multiresolution methods for the processing and estimation of signals and images. For example, multiresolution approaches are being developed and used for tomographic image formation and MRI segmentation. Another aspect of his research concerns the estimation of fundamentally geometric quantities or, more generally, the role that geometry or shape may play in estimation problems. An example of this work is the estimation of cardiac vessel shape in angiograms.
