photo

The exhibition, created in conjunction with the Boston University's School of Music, includes photographs of Wagner and wife, Cosima, Wagner performers including Olive Fremstad in full costume as well as Bayreuth Festival performers Gotthelf Pistor and Emmy Kruger from Tristan unde Isolde and Friedrich Schorr as Odin, in disguise, from Siegfried. There is also correspondence, a facsimile page of a portion of the original hand-written score of Die Walkure, and illustrations from a Swedish edition of The Nibelungen Ring. The material was culled from the Olive Fremstad Collection, the Eva Wagner Chamberlain Collection, the Edwin McArthur Collection, and the Karin Branzell Collection.

Richard Wagner in Context is a month-long symposium exploring the composer's legacy featuring lectures, round-table discussions, conversations, and film screenings organized by the Boston University College of Fine Arts' School of Music.

Located on the second floor of Mugar Memorial Library. The exhibition can be viewed during regular library hours.
