Dorothe Poggel, PhD
Emi (Oki) Takahashi, PhD
Laboratory of Brain Imaging

People in our lab are engaged in a variety of projects related to functional and cognitive neuroimaging studies of higher brain functions in humans and animals.

Dr. Dae-Shik Kim
Dr. Dae-Shik Kim is the Director of the lab. He obtained his PhD from the Max-Planck-Institute for Brain Research in Frankfurt, followed by several postdoctoral works at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), The Institute of Physical and Chemical Research (RIKEN, Japan), and Georgetown University. His main research interest is in elucidation of visual information processing in mature and developing mammalian brains.
Emi Oki, Ph.D
Emi Oki, Ph.D is a postdoctoral associate in the lab. She is using cutting edge neuroimaging techniques to understand the complex network of the human memory system.
Dorothe Poggel Ph.D.
Dorothe Poggel Ph.D. is a postdoctoral associate sharing her time between the laboratories of Dr. Joe Rizzo (VA) and CBI. She is currently developing novel MRI based perimetry techniques for visually impaired patients.
Jeff Thompson Ph.D.
Jeff Thompson Ph.D. is a new postdoctoral associate (from July, 2005) joining us from UC Berkeley. He plans to investigate the development and plasticity processes of the mammalian visual system using non-invasive MR techniques.
Wendy Warner
Wendy Warner is the administrative assistant at the Center for Biomedical Imaging (CBI) which is affiliated with the lab. She is in charge of the overall administration procedures at CBI.
Harish Sharma
Harish Sharma is the MR technologist, in charge of maintaining and running standard MRI studies at CBI.
Jeff Byrnes
Jeff Byrnes is a computer technician, responsible for writing dedicated signal/image processinf software for MRI data analyses/
Mina Kim
Mina Kim is a PhD student, currently finishing her dissertation at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. She started her PhD works under Dr. Kim's supervision when he was a faculty in Minnesota, and she continues to maintain close collaborative projects with Dr. Kim's lab.
Jaymin Upadhya
Jaymin Upadhya is a PhD student at the Program in Neuroscience (PIN) of the Boston University. He is currently looking into the detailed functional architecture of the human language areas, the objective being to establish the basic knowledge basis for future auditory fMRI/DTI studies in austistic subjects (study funded by a grant from the Nancy Lurie Marks Family Foundation).. Jaymin is supervised jointly by Drs. Kim and Tager-Flusberg.
Frederick Powell
Frederick Powell is a graduate student in BUSM's MD/PhD program. Fred's main interest is in mapping the dorsal stream visual areas ("where" stream) of the human visual system.
Sahil Jain
Sahil Jain is an Undergraduate student in the Biomedical Engineering department on BU main campus. He is not only the "IT guru" of our lab, but Sahil is also pursuing a research project of his own, involving complex data analysis software for our future fMRI/DTI projects.
