This course in Human Reproduction and Sexuality is an elective course for graduate students. It addresses many aspects of human reproduction and sexuality including anatomy, embryology, neurology, customs, laws and sexual mores. Both lectures and discussions will take place and students will be encouraged to study the literature and express their own opinions.
At the completion of this course the students will have an understanding of the anatomy and development of that anatomy of the human male and female. The students will be able to describe the reproductive hormones and their effects, throughout life, on structures in the male and female. They will understand the mechanism of the most actively used birth control devices and the methods of contragestation and abortion. They will be able to list the various sexually transmitted diseases and relate the mechanisms by which they are spread and strategies to prevent their spread. They will be able to describe various reproductive cancers and their morbity and mortality. They will become acquainted with various causes and treatments for both male and female infertility. Lastly, they will become better acquainted with sexual mores and customs from various cultures and countries.
