Exciting New Field Education Opportunity
The Albert and Jessie Danielsen Institute at Boston University is pleased to announce a new opportunity for second year MSW students seeking an advanced field education placement in mental health. The mission of the Danielsen Institute is to alleviate suffering and to promote healing, growth, and change in the persons, communities, and institutions that we serve through research, training, and direct clinical service. The Danielsen Institute Clinic is a multidisciplinary outpatient mental health clinic licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. Our clinical services, including individual, group, and couples psychotherapy, attend to all dimensions of a client’s personhood including spirituality and religious faith should the client so desire.
Our clinical staff is skilled in providing psychotherapeutic care for issues including, but not limited to, depression, anxiety, relationships, work-related problems, trauma, abuse, grief, and religious or spiritual concerns.
The primary theoretical orientation of the clinic is psychodynamic – including developmental, object relations, self and relational theories – but staff also draw in substantive ways from systems theory, multicultural perspectives, religious/spiritual resources, cognitive psychology and biological science. The training model emphasizes critical, collaborative reflection upon clinical activities and attention to personal formation in addition to knowledge and skill development. Social Work interns and post-graduate fellows will be asked to reflect upon their personal history and identity as relevant to their professional growth and their capacity to engage issues of identity and diversity.
Commencing in the fall of 2011, the Danielsen Institute will offer two 2-year fellowships for Social Workers. First year fellows will be in their final year of their MSW program and be contracted for a 24 hour per week internship from September 1st to May 1st. Interns will then be given the month of May off for graduation and licensing (LCSW) preparation. Upon satisfactory performance of their first year internship at the Danielsen and upon graduation and successful completion of the LCSW licensing exam, fellows will return to the Institute for a summer internship of 24 hours per week and will be expected to sit for and pass their LCSW examination during the summer.
The second year post-graduate fellowship would commence on September 1, 2012. Post-graduate Social Work fellows will become salaried employees of Boston University. The second year post-graduate fellowship would be of a year’s duration, ending August 31, 2013.
Sept. 1, 2011-April 30, 2012 24 hour/week internship (unpaid)
May 1, 2012-May 31, 2012 Graduation and LCSW Exam prep
June 1, 2012-August 31, 2012 24 hour/week summer internship
($2,500 stipend)
September 1, 2012-August 31, 2013 40 hour/week Post-Graduate Fellowship
($26,100 salary + benefits)
The ideal candidate for our fellowship would have demonstrated interests and readiness for engaging in psychodynamic psychotherapy and in working with existential/spiritual/religious issues in psychotherapy.
