About the Center for the Study of Religion and Psychology
Mission
As the research arm of the Albert and Jessie Danielsen
Institute at Boston University, the mission of the Center
for the Study of Religion and Psychology is to relieve
human suffering and promote human growth through research
in religion and psychology. This research at the intersection
of religion and psychology might take many forms, such
as:
- the study of religious and spiritual
experience and practices;
- religious and spiritual issues in
psychotherapy;
- the interplay
of religion and spirituality with mental health.
This mission is promoted primarily through:
- conducting empirical research studies
using quantitative and qualitative methods;
- training doctoral students and postdoctoral
fellows in empirical research methods;
- interdisciplinary
dialogues and scholarly activities such as symposia
and theoretical writings;
- presentations and publications to professional
and lay audiences.
