Between Relativism and Fundamentalism

The project “Between Relativism and Fundamentalism” is being funded by a generous gift from David Kiersznowski, a Kansas businessman and Boston University graduate. Directed by Professor Peter L. Berger, the project explores the resources in various Christian and Jewish traditions for a position that is neither relativistic, where any question of truth becomes irrelevant, nor fundamentalistic, with an absolutist and intolerant view of religion.

There have been two meetings of an international and interfaith working group, whose members are writing papers for publication in book form. Berger, in collaborating with Anton Zijderveld (Erasmus University, Rotterdam, Netherlands), is writing a book on the same topic. Also conferences with a special focus on the new policy implications are planned for Washington and Berlin.
