Mark Popovsky, M.D., is an honors graduate of the University of Vermont College of Medicine. He trained at the National Institutes of Health and took a fellowship in Transfusion Medicine at the Mayo Clinic. He served as a staff physician at the Mayo Clinic and at Boston’s Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center for more than 20 years, as well Associate Clinical Professor at Harvard Medical School. He held successive positions Chief Medical Officer and Chief Executive Officer of the New England Region of the American Red Cross. He joined Haemoentics as Chief Medical Officer in 2000 and held that position until 2015. He is currently Chief Medical Officer of Velico Medical and Chief Safety Officer to Haemonetics He has more than 400 peer-reviewed publications and is the author of several books on transfusion therapies. He was appointed by President Bush to serve in Nigeria as part of the PEPFAR AIDS mission and by President Obama as a science advisor on the Blood Safety and Availability Committee.
