Director’s Message

ncats newsletter1

NCATS is excited to host “Ask an Astronaut: Biomedical Science Edition” this month to help residents at The Children’s Inn at NIH learn about NIH-funded research in space and on Earth. Through the program, young NIH patients can speak with an astronaut on the International Space Station in real time. In this issue, NCATS Director Christopher P. Austin, M.D., reflects on the significance of patient engagement initiatives like this in translational science. Latest Director’s Message >

NCATS BioPlanet: A Resource for Discovery

With a unique resource created and managed by NCATS, researchers have access to a database of all pathways operating in human cells. Before NCATS created BioPlanet, researchers had to tap multiple pathway databases when studying how compounds and drugs affected cells. Find out more about BioPlanet.

Research Speeds Diagnosis of Genetic Diseases in Seriously Ill Children

NCATS-supported researchers have developed an automated machine-learning approach to diagnose genetic diseases in seriously ill children. This new approach could allow faster diagnosis, initiation of treatment, and, ultimately, better outcomes. Learn more about the research.

NCATS Supports Research to Unlock the Secrets of exRNA

The NIH-funded Extracellular RNA (exRNA) Communication Program examines RNA’s role in cell-to-cell communication and exRNA’s potential clinical applications. NCATS supported six of 18 exRNA research papers recently published in the Cell family of journals. A better understanding of exRNA biology could improve diagnosis and treatment of disease.
