Siblings
Siblings is a one-on-one mentoring program that matches BU students (Big Sibs) with children between the ages of 6 and 12 (Little Sibs) and is one of the CSC’s longest running programs. The program gives children the opportunity to spend time with college students, who serve as positive role models and good friends.
The time commitment is 3-5 hours biweekly for the entire academic year. Program Managers match Big and Little Siblings with similar interests based on the application process, which includes an interview. Siblings then participate in larger program-wide events including the annual Halloween Party and Siblympics. There will also be smaller events through out the year, which in the past have included museum trips, Disney on Ice and Celtics games. Outside of the events, Siblings pairs have the opportunity to plan activities on their own such as trips to Boston parks, museums, dining halls and sporting events.
Siblings should expect to travel to meet up with their Little Sib by walking or by public transportation. The program currently works with Jackson Mann, Winship, St. Patrick and Edison K-8 elementary schools. Siblings has been working with the Winship Elementary School for 22 years.
