Joining Hands

mail

Joining Hands serves as a link between Boston University students and organizations that work with elders and people with disabilities. The program allows volunteers to work directly with the elderly and people with disabilities in a variety of settings, and gain awareness about issues facing these unique populations. Volunteers form friendships with people of all ages, act to close the gap between different populations and become a positive force in the Boston community.

Time commitment is 2-3 hours per week for an entire semester. No previous experience is required. Volunteers are assigned to a site and volunteer with other BU students.

Joining Hands’ sites include Outside the Lines Studio, an alternative day program for artists with disabilities; the LGBT Aging Project, a weekly lunch for senior citizens who identify as LGBT; and Hearth, a project from the Committee to End Elder Homelessness.

All CSC programs, with the exception of ASB, travel to site in one of three ways: by public transportation, by foot, or by one of the CSC’s 15-passenger vans. Students interested in driving the vans are trained and certified at the beginning of each semester.
