The Hunger Issue Area is setting sail on food’s journey from seed to fork. Our vision is to acknowledge all the steps and people that impact the production of sustainable, organic, GMO-free food. We will to examine the causes of food insecurity as well as the social issues surrounding the hunger issue area on a local and national level. Food is one of a few things in a community that brings people together under any circumstances. We hope to start the round table conversation about healthy food choices, creating accessibility throughout our community, and supporting local farmers. We strive to give volunteers a comprehensive understanding of the underlying issues surrounding a community’s access to hardy and just food; as well as how to resolve these issues. Hunger 25 will strive to create awareness, which will generate momentum to act. Act on issues surrounding our food that impact us and generations to come.

Hello Seedlings! Welcome to the Hunger Issue area for FYSOP25! Our names are Rebecca Gladstone and Kyle Ortman.
Rebecca is a senior in the College of Fine Arts majoring in Graphic Design with a minor in Art History. She lives outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, loves the color orange, water skiing and food! Rebecca’s mom cooks the best meals, especially teriyaki tempeh triangles with cauliflower mash and a side of raw green beans.
Kyle is a junior in the College of Arts and Sciences majoring in Environmental Analysis and Policy with minors in Environmental Science and Marine Science. Kyle lives in Point Pleasant Beach, New Jersey, enjoys sports, cooking, and the food he cooks with. Kyle’s mom makes a killer meatloaf, and can whip up the most incredible sweet potato casserole with brown sugar and pecans.
We are going to water you with knowledge about organic, whole, and healthy foods, where to get those yummies, and why it is prevalent to us. We will picnic and chat about just food systems and the journey seeds go on to get to our tables and into our stomachs. You will work alongside each step of the food industry during FYSOP. Whether it is organizing cans at a food pantry, digging for potatoes at a sustainable, non-GMO farm, or learning about healthy, affordable and local food options. We are berry excited about all the knowledge you will take away from Hunger 25.
