CT Dress Rehearsal
by CT Program Manager Matt Donnelly
After a months of manipulating Jay-Z for kindergarten ears, making a case for manners badges and crafting cardboard-for-abs, Children’s Theatre took to the skies. . .and Forks, Washington with some mischievous superheroes and refugee wizards at the program’s Spring 2010 Dress Rehearsal.
Punctuated by raffle prize giveaways — tickets to ImprovBoston, the Hub’s Swan Boats and TD Garden’s Sports Museum as part of the Adopt-A-Star fundraiser — the show gave its audience of 50 a taste of what’s to come for kids in area hospitals, domestic abuse shelters, community centers and after-school programs over the next three weeks. Already, troupes have traveled to Shriner’s Burn Hospital, The Elizabeth Stone House and Casa Nueva Vida as part of their mission to give kids all over Boston in varying states of need basic access to arts enrichment and a chance to relax and have fun.
In the coming weeks, CT will travel all over the city from Roxbury and Jamaica Plan, making its way downtown and, for the first time, to Chinatown. Kids might be in body casts or doing back flips; they might be totally destitute or well-off, but volunteers are bent on making sure each has the chance to be inspired, let loose or scream at the top of his or her lungs.
