April 4, 2012: The Robert Lowell Memorial Lecture Series presents JORIE GRAHAM

Pulitzer Prize-winning poet JORIE GRAHAM will read from her new book Place. BU alumnus PATRICK RYAN FRANK will also be reading from his new book Why the Losers Love What’s Lost.

Jorie Graham is the author of numerous collections of poetry, including Place (2012), Sea Change (2008) and The Dream of the Unified Field: Selected Poems 1974-1994, which won the 1996 Pulitzer Prize for Poetry. She has also edited two anthologies, Earth Took of Earth: 100 Great Poems of the English Language (1996) and The Best American Poetry 1990. Her many honors include a John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Fellowship and the Morton Dauwen Zabel Award from The American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters. She has taught at the University of Iowa Writers’ Workshop and is currently the Boylston Professor of Rhetoric and Oratory at Harvard University. She served as a Chancellor of The Academy of American Poets from 1997 to 2003. She lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts and in the Litchfield Hills of Connecticut.

Patrick Ryan Frank’s first collection of poetry, How the Losers Love What’s Lost, won the Intro Prize for Poetry and was published by Four Way Books. His poems have appeared in Poetry, Cincinnati Review and other journals. His work has been anthologized in Best New Poets 2008, and he is the recipient of grants from the Massachusetts Cultural Council, the Vermont Studio Center, and the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, Massachusetts. He is currently the managing editor of the Bat City Review.

The Robert Lowell Memorial Poetry Series was established to bring distinguished writers to campus to read alongside recent graduates of the program. It is funded by Nancy Livingston and Fred M. Levin through The Shenson Foundation, in memory of Drs. Ben & A. Jess Shenson.
