Soren Hessler

Ph.D. Student in Practical Theology, Concentration: Church Leadership and Administration

Soren Hessler serves as Chapel Associate for Undergraduate Ministry and has been a member of the Marsh Chapel staff since 2009.  Soren’s first two years on staff were spent as a Ministry Associate for Judicial Affairs.  During this time he regularly met with students who had been sanctioned by the university’s Office of Judicial Affairs.  While Soren does continue to occasionally meet with sanctioned students, he is primarily responsible for providing administrative leadership and oversight to several aspects of undergraduate ministry life at Marsh Chapel.  In this capacity, he meets regularly with the Marsh Associates as they begin and explore opportunities in ministry, and he works closely with the Chapel’s hospitality staff in outreach to the university’s undergraduate population.

Soren grew up in rural, northwest Ohio.  He moved to Boston for college and completed a joint BA/MA in Church Administration in the University Professors Program at Boston University in 2008.  That year he also received a graduate certificate in Fundraising Management from Boston University’s Metropolitan College.  In 2011, Soren graduated from the School of Theology with a Master of Divinity and from the School of Education with a Master of Education in Policy, Planning and Administration with a concentration in Higher Education Administration.  Already a proud quadruple-terrier, Soren is currently a doctoral candidate in practical theology with a concentration in church leadership and administration at the Boston University School of Theology.  Soren is a member of the West Ohio Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church and will begin appointment at Marsh Chapel as a licensed local pastor in extension ministry in July 2012.  Soren and Chapel Associate Jennifer Quigley were married at Marsh Chapel by Dean Robert Allan Hill in 2009.
