Doctoral Fellowships

The Center for Practical Theology awards fellowships to new and returning students who are pursuing their doctorates in Practical Theology.  Annually, $30,000 is awarded to new students and $30,000 to returning students.  The fellowship awards range from $5,000 to $10,000.  The Center also provides funding for a smaller number of doctoral students to assist in expenses (travel, books, photocopies, etc.) related to dissertation research.

Application Procedure and Deadlines

To apply for a CPT fellowship, you must submit the following:

  1. A printout of your Boston University School of Theology transcript. (An official copy is not necessary; you may print out the web version.)

  3. A summary of your research interests and the significance of these interests for church and academy.
  4. A statement of how your research and other work does or stands to advance the aims of the Center for Practical Theology.
